Naomi "Charlene" Charlene Barrager
May 30th, 1938 - December 23rd, 2024
Charlene Humphrey (1938-2024)
Naomi "Charlene" Humphrey, born May 30, 1938, in Vici, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 86.
Charlene married Jack Barrager in 1956. He preceded her in death, as did their daughter, Nikki Anderson.
She is survived by her son, Greg Barrager; daughter, Deann Anderson; sister, Phyliss Picker; and three grandchildren: Bailee Foster, Alec Anderson, and Isaac Barrager.
Charlene's life was a tapestry of diverse experiences. She began her career at the Umatilla Army Depot, where she fondly recalled attending training in Portland during the Rose Festival. She later worked at the Lane County Courthouse and as an adult education instructor at Lane Community College. Upon relocating to Portland, she found joy in serving as a reading mentor for children in need at Metro Family Services.
A lifelong learner and avid gardener, Charlene cultivated a green thumb wherever she lived, planting a tree in every yard she called home.
Above all, Charlene was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her life was dedicated to caring for her family, from raising her children and supporting her husband to providing unwavering love and support to her daughter during her illness. Family gatherings were her greatest joy, even with the extra cooking and cleaning, she thrived in the company of her loved ones.
Charlene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
