Mona Marguerita Moore Anderson, beloved wife of the late Willis Glen Anderson, passed gently on to her heavenly reward the morning of December 28, 2024, on what would have been their 76th wedding anniversary.

Mona’s life began March 1, 1925 in Camrose, Alberta, the fifth of 10 children to William and Vira Moore. Her family consisted of Alan, Owen, Elsie, Nora, Brian, Gordon, Ray and Richard, who reunited with her later in life. As a child born during the lean years of the Depression, she went to live on a farm with Mae and Clarence Knudson and their daughters, Carol and Jean. They later moved to Minneapolis, where Mona met and married Willis.

Mona and Willis had three children; Sharman (Gordon - deceased) and Tim (Barb) were born in Minneapolis and Philip in Evansville. While the family moved several times, they considered Virginia and Florida home.

Mona’s splendid musical abilities were recognized early in life. The Lord gave her a glorious Soprano voice, and she taught herself piano. She sang in the church choir as well as at several local Christian Women’s Clubs, D.C. Village, Pentagon Prayer Breakfasts and several Gideon Conferences when she and her family moved to the Washington, D.C. area.

A talented homemaker, Mona delighted in sharing her gift of hospitality with family, friends, and church groups. She was known for cooking magnificent meals, and always having a homemade cake ready for birthday guests. While one might overhear a lighthearted “uff da!” from the kitchen, Mona made entertaining look effortless — from preparing dinner to singing and playing the piano to reciting poetry and sharing stories with her grandchildren. Everyone left with a big hug.

Mona, affectionately known as Mona Mom, was given her name by Lori, her first grandchild. She and Willis had five grandchildren: Lori (Jeff) Drake, Melissa (Mark) Rubley, Amy (Kenneth) Moss, Tammy (Jim) Robinson, Theresa (Adam) Willett. They also had six great-grandchildren: Amanda and Katie Drake, Christopher and Kevin Moore, Maddie and Mason Willett, as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Alice Moore, born three months before Mona’s passing.

She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Hall and will be missed by her surviving sister, Jean Mattson as well as several nieces and nephews: Shelley (Tom) Fix, Lynn (Teddy) Ferguson, Richard (Amy) Hall, Brent (Tami) Hall and Jimmy Mattson.

Mona was also cherished by the Anderson family: Dolores (Ed) Balda, Curtis (Kathy) Anderson, Jeremy (Cathy) Anderson, Michele (Paul), Mark (Miriam) and Marvin Mattson.

Mona lived over 30 years in her home in Suntree until taking a fall in early 2024. She was hospitalized for a brief time, then moved to the Viera Rehab Center on Spyglass Hill Road where she was visited often by friends and family. She remained there until her death.

Visitation will take place at First Baptist Church of South Brevard on Monday, January 13, from 10-11am, with services to follow. 4300 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32935

Gravesite service will take place, January 14, at 12:30PM in Bushnell, FL at the Florida National Cemetery.
