Memorial

Gilbert S. Geslin January 13, 1926 †" August 4, 2020 Gilbert S. Geslin of Arvada, Colorado passed away on August 4, 2020. He was born on January 13,1926 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to John Earl and Elsie (Smith) Geslin. As a baby, the family moved to a farm in Riverton, Wyoming where Gil and his brothers, Howard and Jack, attended local schools. Upon graduation, Gil enlisted in the Navy where he served honorably from 1944 until discharge in 1949. His service included time during the later stages of World War II. With the GI Bill in hand, Gil enrolled at the University of Wyoming where he graduated in 1952. While in Laramie, Gil met Viola Jones and the two were married in 1953. He began a long career with Amoco Oil and Gas right out of college, retiring from Amoco in 1986 while working in the downtown Denver office. Gil enjoyed a laundry list of life-long hobbies including hiking, backpacking and fishing in the Rocky Mountains, gardening, woodworking and traveling the world with Viola. Gil stepped foot on all the continents except Antarctica. However, Mexico was without a doubt his favorite winter destination. Gil believed in volunteering his time to the community. His volunteering generally centered around his hobbies including donating vegetables to the local food bank, building wheelchair ramps for the handicapped and working on builds for Habitat for Humanity. Some of his notable woodworking projects included carving duck decoys and his sculpture of owls. There are many notable events in Gil†™s life but two stand out from all others. At the age of 68 he taught himself to ride a bicycle and subsequently completed two of the grueling Ride the Rockies summer bicycle tours. Also, at the age of 80, Gil climbed to the top of Mount Olympus with two of his grandchildren. Gil Geslin is survived by his wife Viola, daughter, Dianne (Kevin) Spencer, sons Thomas (Tatianne) and Jeffrey (Lorna), eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and both brothers. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Community Table, 8555 W. 57th Ave, Arvada, CO 80002 would be most appreciated.
