Sarah Ann (Sally) Lowther, 95, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away on January 1, 2025 surrounded by love. Born on March 7, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Susan Brenner, Sally spent the majority of her childhood living in Oswego, NY. She was a 1950 graduate of Syracuse University where, much to her chagrin, she was funneled into a Home Economics major instead of the Fine Arts curriculum she desired. Never getting particularly excited about cooking, she did continue to pursue her love of the arts, painting and playing piano throughout her life. Sally also discovered a different passion at Syracuse, meeting her husband, John Lowther, who passed away in 2014 after 63 years of marriage. Sally and John raised 5 children together, (Rex Lowther of Palm Bay, FL, Jocelyn Lowther and Geoffrey Lowther of Cocoa Beach, FL, Linda Saunders of Tallahassee, FL, and Alan Lowther of Miami, FL), and had many adventures living in various states before moving to Cocoa Beach in 1962. Sally worked many diverse jobs during her career, including school lunch manager, United States Census data collector, social worker for the State of Florida, and a stint as the owner/operator of a children’s nursery in Cocoa Beach. Her jobs didn’t define her, however, but instead allowed her to pursue what she most valued in life – travel and adventures with her family. Besides being the best mom that 5 unique kids could ever ask for, Sally enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, editor of John’s manuscripts, artist, player and appreciator of music, and lover of any good happy hour. All who knew her would agree that Sally was pure love and acceptance. So, it was not surprising that she waited to depart this world until just after midnight on New Year's Eve. She was always up for the party, and it should be noted that Venus was particularly bright in the sky that night. At the end of her life Sally expressed concerns with how she would be remembered. “I don’t want to be a ‘do nothing’”. Her entire family, including 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, would like it to be known that, in addition to her many accomplishments, her long life of generous and unconditional loving unequivocally qualifies her as a very accomplished “do something.”

A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at a time and location to be determined.
