Beverly Jean (Crain) McCoy, 88, passed away in her sleep from heart failure on January 4, 2025, at her home in Tucson.
Beverly was born November 16, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, to William Kenneth Crain and Nancy Rosemary Evis Ann May, and grew up in Wichita and Augusta, Kansas, with her younger brother Robert Charles Crain, who preceded her in death in 1994.
After graduating from Phillips University in Oklahoma, she began working as an elementary school teacher in both Wichita and Los Angeles from 1958-1965. She met her former husband, Robert George McCoy, in Long Beach and they married in 1964. His work in the aircraft industry took them to Seattle, Wichita, and ultimately Tucson where she spent the remainder of her life.
In 1970 she began working as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, and later at Tucson Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant in the oncology department. In 1991 she was awarded an Associate Nursing Degree and worked as a Registered Nurse in TMC’s GYN/Antepartum Unit until she retired in 1999. In later years she worked as a Charge Nurse in hospice units.
She loved hiking Sabino Canyon, watching professional basketball, and caring for her family and her cats. She was determined not to move on before the last of her beloved cats, Johnnie, passed over.
She is survived by her three children: Timothy; Tod, his wife Nikki, and step-granddaughter Elke; and Susan Reddoch; and three grandchildren, Susanne Reddoch, Michael Reddoch, and Wendy Reddoch.
