Addie Lou Payne
July 7th, 1928 - January 2nd, 2025
Addie Lou (Turner) Payne, passed away peacefully on January 2,2025 at the age of 96.
Born in Drumright, Oklahoma on July 7,1928 to Elmer and Lola Turner. Addie spent her youthful years in Springfield, Missouri. She was a long-time Ocala resident and co-owner of Payne's Termite and Pest Control with her husband, James E. Payne (d. 1998). Having first met in Salem, Arkansas at a basketball game in which he was playing, Addie and James were married after his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946. (The couple were to be married for over 52 years.)
She and James soon moved to West Palm Beach. Years later they relocated to Ocala where together, they opened their own business. Even more important than her business activities were Addie's roles as a caring and devoted mother. She continued to expand her loving attention to her granddaughters, great granddaughters and a great-great granddaughter.
Addie loved cooking for her family and they all can attest to the many wonderful dishes she created, especially her delicious fried chicken and biscuits and gravy. She, along with James, enjoyed hosting frequent gatherings of family and friends in their backyard "Cook Shack". Fish Fries were another favorite gathering after successful fishing and camping trips to the Gulf Coast.
Addie is survived by Wanda Bauer and her husband William, Janet Nix and her husband James, Shannon Hettenbach and her husband Thomas. Her granddaughters Melissa, Julie, Leigh Ann, Meghan and Ally. Addie’s great granddaughters, Hope, Grace, Faith, Joy, Serenity, Emily, Chloe, Adeline and great-great granddaughter Braylee. Addie is also survived by sisters, Euna Novella Mitchell and Wanda Mae Hosmer. She was sister to the late Ina Nevada Bowles, and Betty Jean Dertina.
Addie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
