Catherine Dorothy Kemmerer

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Catherine D Kemmerer, who passed away on 19 January 2025 at the age of 88.

Born on 24 November 1936 in Radford, Montgomery County, Virginia, she grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. She is survived by her children, Martin Corcell, Sharon Wolf (Ken), Donna McComas, Robert Corcell (Susan), John Corcell, Michael Corcell (Susan), Daniel Kemmerer (Karen), and Donald Kemmerer (Melissa), 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her sister Esther Gaskins (Rodney).

She was preceded in death by her life partner George S Blodgett, her parents Oren D and Edith (McAlhaney) Hegwood, her sister Barbara Mosier, and brother Richard Hegwood.

Cathy lived a fulfilling life and was a woman of many talents. She had a passion for cooking and crocheting, and her homemade dishes were always the highlight of family gatherings. She won many first place ribbons for her crochet entries in county fairs. She also had a green thumb and loved tending to her garden. She enjoyed reading books and making crochet items for charity in her free time. She loved to travel and spent many years riding in an 18-wheeler with George. She also worked as a dispatcher for a trucking company.

Cathy was a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her warm and fun personality.

A funeral service will be held 1 February 2025 at noon at the Summerville Presbyterian Church.

Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
