Richard H. Laird
October 5th, 1933 - January 2nd, 2025
Richard H. Laird, 91, of Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in loving company of his granddaughter, Amanda Laird (Glen Springstead). Richard was born on October 5, 1933 to the late William and Sophia (Valachovic) Laird.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1956, and was deployed to serve in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, Richard earned his Associate’s Degree and worked at Karg Bros. for 14 years as a chemist. In 1969 Richard began working for FTG Manufacturing as a Computer Systems Analyst. He retired from FTG in January of 1996.
On July 21, 1956 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Lou McGregor, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years until her passing on May 13, 2002. He was also preceded in passing by his siblings, William Laird, Virginia Sackett, Donald Laird, Arlene Lansing, Jeanette Kretser, and Cecile Hurley; his later life companion Jennie Coloney and his son, Paul S. Laird on September 2, 2024.
Throughout his life Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, and even shared his knowledge of the great outdoors through his work as a Scout Leader. He was also a talented carpenter and cabinet maker, as well as a musician. Richard was always very social, had a great sense of humor, and a love for travel.
Richard leaves behind his son, Roger Laird; his brother, Carl Laird; his sister-in-law, Lorraine (McGregor) Spiry; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand children and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Noon.
