Carl A. Hauer

Carl A. Hauer, Jr., 89, of Greeley passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at his home in Greeley.  He was born August 26, 1935 in Grover, Colorado to Carl and Charlotte (Roberts) Hauer.  Carl grew up in the Hereford, CO area and graduated from Grover High School.  He was fortunate to live with the Keith and Lambert families after his mother passed away.  In 1956, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and completed basic training at Fort Hood; the remainder of his service was in Germany. 

He married Susan Benner on August 28, 1959 at the Grover Community Church.  Carl worked for various farmers and ranchers before going to work at Mountain Bell and retired 39 years later as an inspector.  He was an avid bowler, loved hunting, fishing and all sports, and especially loved the Broncos and Rockies.  He enjoyed going to his sons’ and grandkids’ sporting events and going with them to the mountains to fish or hunt.  Carl had a green thumb and was well-known for his large, beautifully maintained yard and rose garden.  He was always busy creating and crafting things for his yard and was very artistic.  He was known to have a sweet tooth and never passed up chocolate, a cookie or apple pie.  Carl answered to many names:  J.R., Junior, Poon, but his kids and grandkids most fondly called him Buster or Papa.  

Carl is survived by his wife, Susan Hauer of Greeley; his sons, Darrel and wife Angela Hauer of Greeley, Troy and wife Angie Hauer of Eaton and Jeff and wife Nancy Hauer of Rifle; his grandchildren, Christopher and wife Brooke Hauer, Jenny and husband Jim Rebenack, Teig and wife Hannah Hauer, Ryleigh Hauer, Jacey Hauer, and Lainee and husband Josh Flanagan; and his great-grandsons, Ryder and Wyatt Rebenack and Knox Hauer.  He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Donald Hauer, Ralph “Tuffy” Hauer, Betty Thompson, Jim Hauer, Charlie “Sparky” Hauer and Irene Shepard. 

A Life Celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Adamson Life Celebration Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, CO  80634.
