In Loving Memory
Richard “Rick” Zimmer, 57, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center.
Rick was born on February 6, 1967, in Meriden, Connecticut. He graduated from Husson College in 1986, where he studied culinary arts, paving the way for a 40-year-long career as a chef. His passion for cooking brought joy to countless people.
For 13 years, Rick worked as a chef at The Orchards of Southington, where he was loved by the residents for both his cooking and kindness. He took pride in mentoring young chefs and his colleagues.
Rick and his beloved wife, Ida, moved to South Carolina to escape the cold New England winters, to be closer to family, and to explore new places together. They traveled to destinations such as Cocoa Beach, Florida; Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia; Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Maggie Valley and Cherokee, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina, and many other areas of South Carolina.
After settling in South Carolina, Rick continued his culinary career at Wellmore of Lexington, where he worked as a sous chef for five years. He loved cooking there and he made an impression on everyone he met.
In addition to his professional talents, Rick kept himself busy with his hobbies. He loved to collect baseball cards and coins, and he enjoyed the thrill of discovery through metal detecting. He loved to go golfing and fishing, often spending quality time with his son-in-law, Lucas, on these outings. Rick was also skilled in furniture restoration and refurbishment.
Rick is survived by his adoring wife, Ida, who was the love of his life. Together, they shared nearly 25 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed gardening, going to the beach, their pool and the view of their pond, and its vast wildlife where Rick spent fishing and bird watching. They were looking forward to celebrating their silver anniversary on August 19 with a special trip to the French Quarters in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He also leaves behind his mother, AnnMarie Dorsey Zimmer; his children, Joshua Zimmer, Fallon Iaco (Lucas), and Chris J. Bernardini, Jr.; his sister-in-law, Christine Zimmer; and his grandchildren, Logan Warner and Nora Iaco, who affectionately referred to him as “Grampy.” Rick also leaves behind many other loved ones including friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard Zimmer, and his brother, Stephen Zimmer.
Rick was a happy, caring, and selfless soul and everyone around him felt his joy and love for life. He will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to thank the Lexington Medical Center staff for their compassionate care and support during Rick’s time there.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a future date.
