George Stepan
October 23rd, 1951 - January 11th, 2025
A Life Well-Lived
George W. Stepan was born Oct 23, 1951 to Pastor George and Isabelle Stepan in Montana. He grew up in Montana and Wyoming, and moved to Denver to attend Baptist Bible College, where he met his wife of 53 years, Kathee Matteson. Together they served in churches in Colorado, Montana, and Florida. They also spent a couple years running Camp Eden in Golden, CO. While pastoring in churches, George had several bi-vocational jobs including lumberjack and carpenter. George and Kathee spent several years in itinerate revival ministry singing, preaching and teaching in churches across America before settling in Denver to pastor Ward Road Baptist Church in 2003. George retired from the pulpit in 2014, but he continued his ministry through online teaching, writing, and encouraging others through weekly devotionals until soon before his death on January 11, 2025. Throughout his life George enjoyed camping with Kathee, fly fishing, and found great joy in studying God’s word as he sought to know and understand God more fully.
George is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Kristen. He is survived by his wife Kathee, son Jeremy and his wife Kristen, their four children Ella, Aleesa, Aubree and Elijah and his wife Christiana, Jonathan and his wife Sarah, their four children Foster, Elliott, Magnus, and Easton, his sister Olive Baum, and his faithful lap dog, Sadie.
In addition to family, he is survived by best friends of over 50 years: George and Kathy Abbas, Dave and Barbara Bandimere, and Tony and Sarah Archer.
His life will be celebrated February 8, 2025 at Beth Eden Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, if you were impacted by the faithful ministry of George Stepan, you are invited to give to the ministry of Rekindle the Flame.
