Edwin Schneider August 20, 1927 - April 16, 2022 Ed died after a brief illness. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 74 years, Meredith Pauline (Paula) Schneider and his much loved extended family. He was preceded in death by his children Cathie McPherson, and Claude Schneider, his parents and all of his siblings. His career was in education as a teacher, a high school principal, and an assistant superintendent in the Portland Public Schools. He also served as a part-time adjunct instructor at Portland State University. Ed was on a National Committee of the Merit Scholarship Program, Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, and on the Accreditation Committee of the National Association of Colleges. He served two terms as President of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. Ed felt privileged to have known so many fine people who were his students, colleagues, school parents and members of the community, and to have encountered so many of them throughout his life. He had many interests and hobbies, furniture woodworking, flower gardening, and traveling through Europe and the US among them. Remembrances may be sent to the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
