Robert "Rusty" Preston Redmond, Jr.
October 27th, 1940 - February 12th, 2025
In loving memory
Robert Preston (Rusty) Redmond, Jr., age 84, from Leesville, SC, passed peacefully at his Lake Murray home on February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Rusty was born October 27, 1940, in Swansea, SC, to Robert P. Redmond, Sr., and Sadie Culbreth Redmond.
Rusty is preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert Carson Redmond, Hiram, GA; and sister Carolyn Redmond Richardson, Orangeburg, SC. Rusty is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Brabham Redmond, his two sons, Stephen Redmond (girlfriend Denise Rice) and Brent Redmond, grandchildren Katie Lewis (Elijah), and Robert Redmond. Rusty is also survived by his brother Pete C. Redmond of Columbia, SC and sisters Juanita (Mark) Lee of Lexington, SC, and Teresa (Michael) Lang of Columbia, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rusty graduated Cameron High School in 1959 where he was an outstanding football player. Rusty joined the Army in 1963 and was stationed Fort Rucker, Alabama, Special Troops where he was an Aircraft Engineer Mechanic and received Marksmanship Badge (Rifle).
Rusty had a strong love of cars and a talent for working on them. He owned “Rusty’s Exxon” in Barnwell for many years and after retirement worked in the automotive section of Walmart in Lexington till the age of 79. After his retirement from Walmart, he loved getting a cup of McDonalds coffee then going to Batesburg Leisure Center to work out on the rowing machine which he enjoyed till he was 84. Rusty loved fishing, but his favorite pastime was taking his wife, sons and grandkids camping in the mountains or beaches. He always hosted the annual Redmond Christmas Party at his home and a summer party for his family. Rusty was an avid Gamecock fan, loved singing his favorite country songs, and enjoyed dancing. He never met a stranger and his biggest goal in life was to “put a smile on somebody's face every day”.
A Celebration of Life for Rusty will be held at his Lake Murray home on April 12, 2025.
