Susan Marie Hofmann Moriarty
February 25th, 1937 - February 23rd, 2025
Susan Marie Hofmann Moriarty, 87, widow of Edward James Moriarty Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in her home surrounded by family. She was born in Atlanta, GA on February 25, 1937, to the late Harry Joseph and Mamie Sue (McDevitt) Hofmann. She grew up in Louisville, KY, and graduated from Ursuline Academy.
Susan was known as Susie, Sissy, Mama and Granny. She is survived by her eight children, Nancy Howard (John), Amy Zimmer (Daniel), Daniel Moriarty (Charlene), Reverend John Moriarty, Edward Moriarty, Gary Moriarty (Lisa), Polly Jackson (Joe), and Mark Moriarty; her brother, Eugene Hofmann (Andy); her sister, Patricia Hofmann Markert; her sister in law, Patricia Hofmann Gibbs; her brother in law, Roger Keyes; eight grandchildren, Chase Blakeman, Taryn Blakeman Dengel (Jason), Ben Jackson, Kelly Jackson, Haley Howard Lyon (Jace), Charlie Jackson, Gwen Bates (Jason), Alisha Small; ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James Hofmann, Mary Elizabeth (Mickey) Hofmann Keyes, Harry “Sonny” Joseph Hofmann, and Robert A. Hofmann.
Susie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was blessed with divine wisdom and an infinite giving spirit, always sharing her time, talents, and love with those around her. She poured her heart into every stitch, whether she was sewing a wedding dress, crafting prom dresses, or making clothes for her children. She found joy in quilting, crocheting, macramé, and creating bag-o-bags, Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls, blankets, pillowcases, and aprons, each piece a labor of love. Every gift reflected her kindness, warmth, and the deep care she had for family, friends, people she would meet in the community, and those in need.
Her greatest gift was in being a mother. She had a deep love for children and was a devoted advocate for their well-being. She had the ability to form a special connection with every child she met, fostering unique and meaningful relationships. She was a beautiful example to show us the value of life and the value of being a mother in the way she poured her love into nurturing, encouraging, developing and guiding each child, even into adulthood.
She was a loyal and faithful servant, with Christ at the center of her life. She prayed the rosary daily, finding strength and peace in her unwavering faith. Her deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Padre Pio was known to all who knew her, and many turned to her in times of need, trusting her to lift their prayers with love and sincerity. She carried the burdens of others in prayer, a true reflection of her compassionate and selfless spirit.
In any situation, she instinctively focused on what truly mattered in life. Often, her advice extended outside of her own experience, yet she was still able to provide the best guidance, counseling or direction. She lived a simple, purposeful life, guided by her unwavering values, which she passed on to her children and everyone she knew.
Susie retired from the Kentucky State Government with administrative roles in the Department of Human Resources and KCTCS (Kentucky Community & Technical College System), and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was active in many ministries.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the services and care provided by Bluegrass Care Navigators and Cornerstone Caregiving in Frankfort, KY.
