Willard LeRoy Wood
October 17th, 1932 - February 10th, 2025
Willard LeRoy Wood, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, surrounded by close family.
Woody was born on October 17, 1932 in Ainsworth Iowa, seventh of eight children. Growing up on the family farm fueled his adventurous spirit and strong work ethic that he carried with him throughout his life. He also developed a deep sense of community and always lent a helping hand. After high school he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1978, ultimately concluding his service as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his time in the military, he was stationed in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and became highly skilled in Morse code, a testament to his dedication and discipline.
Following his time in the service, Woody settled in Colorado Springs, CO. On October 15, 1983 he married Linda Marie Wood, committing their life together as they raised a beautiful family. Woody was a devoted husband, parent, and grandparent; nothing brought him more joy than spending time with those he loved most. During this time he continued his career as a Logistician for Aerojet/Northrop Grumman, retiring in 2002.
Known for being the life of the room, Woody had an infectious smile that could light up any space. He had a talent for making others laugh and always enjoyed a good joke. His warmth, kindness, and ability to connect with others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Woody had a deep love for traveling, exploring many places around the world and achieving his goal of touching all 50 states. He shared this passion with his family, creating life long memories through many adventurous trips.
Woody will always be remembered for the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the family he built. May he rest in peace.
Woody is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Wood; children Ashlee Mayne, Ciara Cadel, Brandy Rose Wood, Dakota Wood, Cheyenne Webb, and MaKayla Wood; his daughter Ashlee’s husband, Matt Mayne, and their children Cameren and Brayden; his sister Betty Stewart; and many cherished extended family members.
A private service will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a tree being planted in Woody’s memory. For those who wish to make a contribution, please visit The Gifted Tree
