Carman Claywell
July 4th, 1944 - February 16th, 2025
Carman Claywell passed away in his Colorado Springs home on February 16th after a two-month hospitalization. He was born to Marvin and Edna Claywell on July 4, 1944, joining five siblings. Carman graduated from Palmer High School in 1962 and was employed by Colorado Interstate Gas in 1969 in Lakin, Kansas. He was married to Kathi Graham in 1966, and they welcomed two daughters, Robyn and Brandi in 1969 and 1971. Carman worked with C.I.G. for five years in Lakin before moving to Ft. Morgan in 1974 and ultimately in Colorado Springs in 1998, totaling over 30 years with the company.
Carman was known for many things including a delightful sense of humor, love of a good fishing trip and creating items of wood – donating small wooden toys at Christmas. He loved the old muscle car, races and car shows. Favorite family memories included camping in Colorado and traveling to many states plus Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and Alaska. He loved ice cream and considered you a communist if you didn’t join him. Many a time he drove 2 ½ hours for grandsons’ sports or activities. His greatest joy was spending time with family anytime he could.
He will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, thoughtfulness and generosity. He will sadly be missed by his daughters, their mother, his grandchildren, great granddaughter, his sister, Jan Michaels, and a host of nieces, nephews and long-time friends. He was the best Dad, Grandpa, and Papa ever.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
