In Loving Memory

John Michael Bertsch, Jr., affectionately known as Jack, 77, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away February 5, 2025, at his residence. He was born on November 11, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York.

After high school, Jack joined the United States Army in the 113th Army Band as a bandsman; his musical instrument of choice was the trumpet. After three (3) years, Jack was honorably discharged.

After serving his time in the Army, Jack was employed with the United States Postal Service, where he would eventually retire. Jack was part of the NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) and was very involved with the USPS union.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Melissa Netherton (Chris) of West Columbia, South Carolina, and his granddaughter, Savannah Chappell also of West Columbia, South Carolina.

Thompson Funeral Home has graciously managed all the arrangements. A graveside service for Jack will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00am in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health).
