Frederick Norman Indermaur, 87, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Tolland, CT passed away on February 11, 2025, at home after a long illness.

Fred (Rick) was born April 14, 1937, in Lakewood, OH to Herschel and Janice Indermaur. He grew up in Bay Village, OH, and graduated from BGSU in Bowling Green, OH with a Liberal Arts degree where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Fred met his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara (Bobbie), while in college.

Fred began his working career in 1959 as a newscaster and DJ after which he worked numerous jobs in sales. In 1976 Fred settled with his family in Tolland, CT and worked for Northeastern Retail Lumber Assoc as a Regional Manager and Lobbyist to represent the industry in CT, RI, MA, & Long Island, NY from 1976 until his retirement in 1997.

Fred was involved in many national and local clubs over the years, including coaching Tolland Rec basketball and Commodore of Crystal Lake Yacht Club. He was bestowed many honors including Bay Village High School Athletic Hall of Fame, CT Lumber Person of the Year and Who’s Who in the East. Fred’s passions were boating on Lake Erie and sailing the New England coast; as well as golfing in which he achieved 4 holes-in-one in his lifetime.

In 2000, Fred and Bobbie moved to Riverwood in Port Charlotte, FL. Living in Florida, they have made so many wonderful friends from all over the country and loved golfing where he won Riverwood’s Member/Member golf tournament in 2015.

Fred was a social butterfly and loved to gather with friends and family and really enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. His idols were W. C. Fields and Benny Hill, and he was an avid storyteller with a great sense of humor.

Family was extremely important to Fred. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Bobbie) and brother, Robert Indermaur (Peg). His children James Indermaur (Mary), Elizabeth Thomas (Scott), and Douglas Indermaur (Jennifer). His grandchildren Spencer and Connor Indermaur, Michaela Shorts (Jeffrey), and Nikole Indermaur; and his great-grandchildren Lincoln, Kashton, and Wrenley Shorts. Fred was predeceased by both of his parents.

Special thanks to Bobbie Jo and all of the staff and nurses at Tidewell Hospice for their compassionate care.

Memorial services will be private and at the discretion of the family.
