John Michael Franks, 66, of Mt. Carmel went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Big Stone Gap, VA to the late Eugene and Betty Franks. He attended Wise Technical School. John worked as a painter for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially on family camping trips. He was a devoted member of Tabernacle of Praise Church where he served as Head Usher and Board Member. John was a loving husband, dad, papaw, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Brenda Wilson and Kathy McMurray; grandson, Peyton Flanary.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Ellen Franks; daughters, Cindy Flanary and husband Jackie, Lisa Manning and husband Nick, and Amy Ward; sons, Curtis Franks and wife Jessica, Michael Franks and wife Laura; grandchildren, Brayden, Cason, Tyson, Maylee, Anna, Abby, Andrew, Avalyn, Westin, Whitley Chloe, and Tristan; along with a host of friends and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 6:30pm on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Tabernacle of Praise Church. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jackie Flanary officiating.
