Carl E. Raglin, age 86, of Wilmette, Illinois, passed away on February 4, 2025. Born on June 25,1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Carl leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and unconditional love for his family and friends. Coming from humble beginnings, Carl learned early on the importance of education, kindness, and staying true to one’s roots — values he carried throughout his life.

After graduating high school, Carl proudly served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he honed his leadership skills and developed a profound sense of discipline that would guide him both personally and professionally. Following his military service, Carl attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he earned a degree in business. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Bettye Winfree. They married while still in college and welcomed their first child, Carla, followed by Michael and Shannon in subsequent years.

Carl enjoyed a distinguished career as an executive in the paper industry, dedicating almost 40 years to Union Camp Corporation (now International Paper), where he was respected for his ethical standards and steadfast commitment. Carl not only empowered those around him but served as a mentor to many.

Beyond his professional achievements, Carl was a passionate car racing enthusiast. He immersed himself in road track racing, both as a driver and later as a race team owner. His love for racing culminated in the formation of Raglin Racing, a team that proudly won multiple SCCA national championships over the years. Carl also found joy with family and friends in canoeing the U.S.- Canada Boundary Waters, snow skiing, and exploring the beauty of Italy, where he developed a deep appreciation for its wine and culture.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Bettye W. Raglin; his daughter, Carla Hahn and her husband Brian, along with their children Jonathon and Margot; his son, Michael J. Raglin and his children Joshua, Vienna, and Ari; and his daughter, Shannon Raglin and her husband Leonard J. Falstick. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Owens, sister Carole McClure, and was predeceased by his brother Ramon Pulliam and sister Judith.

Carl E. Raglin will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments, but for his compassion, honesty, and ability to connect with everyone he met. His strong moral principles, unwavering determination, graciousness, and love of life with family and friends will be an inspiring legacy for all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Plans for a “Celebration of Life” is in process for a later date.

If you wish to do so, a memorial donation can be made to https://www.mcsf.org (The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation). His years in The Marines were very formative.
