On Saturday March 1, 2025 Dorothy Mae Albrecht surrounded by her loving family passed away at the age of 83. She was born in Glendive Montana on April 21, 1941 to Wilbur (Sandy) and Rhoda Meyers. She was the second oldest child in the Meyers family joining her older sister Margaret. Her brothers Don and Terry soon followed along with sisters Debbie and Marcia. Growing up they lived in Glasco and then Glendive Montana to be close to their father's job at the Northern Pacific Railroad.

Dorothy's memory of their first home in Glendive was that the floor was very cold and they couldn't stay on it for long! They then bought their first house (brother Terry now owns and still resides there) and their monthly payment was the exorbitant amount of $25.00 per month. Their family lived in this home for many years. They found their next house in 1958 when they found out that their neighbor was moving. The neighbor financed them and they made the move. They were able to rent out their first home.

Dorothy graduated in 1959 from Dawson County High School. She was then recruited for airline school in Minneapolis. She completed that training and landed a job with NW Airlines doing teletype and reservations in Queens, New York. She recalled thinking that the area was dangerous even then! She shared an apartment with 3 other people. She made $2.90 an hour and worked there for a year and a half. Their group went on strike and Dorothy lost her job. She then moved back to Glendive.

Dorothy worked at the Cab Stand as a dispatcher. She met Duke at this job who worked there as part of their family business. As a dispatcher her job was to give directions (no Google Maps at time!) to the taxi drivers and they soon found out that Duke was good at receiving directions from Dorothy, She continued giving these directions during their married life for over 60 years!

Duke and Dorothy were married on August 5, 1961. Shortly after their marriage Dorothy took a front desk job at a local hotel. In December 1962 their young family, which now included Barbara, moved to Carmel, Indiana. They then moved again to Big Springs, Indiana where they welcomed Michael and Julia. Dorothy's family settled in Whitestown, Indiana where Dorothy stayed at home with her children until Julia was in 4th grade. She started her career with Kmart in about 1977 and continued living in Whitestown, Indiana until 1980. They made lifelong friends in Indiana with Kenny and Imadell Perry. They then moved to Hobart, Oklahoma for a quick nine months where Dorothy was a bank teller.

Fort Morgan, Colorado was their next destination where they remained for the rest of Dorothy's life. Dorothy went back to working at Kmart in Fort Morgan where she continued until her retirement in 2005. As soon as she retired they hit the road and traveled extensively in their RV.

In retirement and throughout her life Dorothy enjoyed Crocheting and sewing. She made beautiful Doilies, tablecloths and several quilts. Duke and Dorothy enjoyed traveling in their RV and were able to visit every state except Hawaii. Dorothy and Duke also enjoyed square dancing with the Skirts and Shirts club for many years.

Dorothy will be missed by all that knew her. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Barbara and husband Jim, her son Michael and wife Rosemary and her daughter Julia. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, siblings, many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Dwight (Duke), parents (Wilber and Rhoda Meyers), Father and Mother in law (Peter and Dorothy Albrecht), sister and brother in law (Margaret and Ray Zimdars), brother and sister in law (Darrell and Sylvia Albrecht) and sisters in law (Kay and Shirley).

A celebration of her life will take place Friday, May 9, 2025 at 1:00pm at First Christian Church, 225 W. Bijou Avenue, Fort Morgan, Colorado. Burial to follow service at Riverside Cemetery & Memory Garden in Fort Morgan.
