Aleta Mae Griggs
October 19th, 1925 - March 11th, 2025
Aleta Mae Griggs of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Grace Assisted Living of Caldwell. She was 99 years young.
Aleta was born October 19, 1925, in Merna, Nebraska, the second daughter of Leland Calvin Perry and Alta Smith Perry. Aleta attended a one room school built by her grandfather, Perry, on her parent’s place. She graduated from Merna High School in 1943. After graduation, Aleta drove a delivery truck, delivering milk to the surrounding neighborhood. She also worked for a grocery store in Broken Bow, Nebraska, before coming to Idaho.
Aleta drove her Model A to Idaho to visit her sister, Delilah. At a family function, Aleta met Stanley Gilbert Griggs. They were married on February 7, 1947, and remained married and true to each other for 66 years, until Stanley’s passing on March 25, 2013. They have two sons, Dennis and Doyle. Aleta worked at the College of Idaho as custodian for the girl’s dorm and ended her career as custodian for Jewett Auditorium on the College of Idaho campus.
Stanley and Aleta then moved to Mt. Vernon, Oregon, in the early 1980’s. They later moved to Canyon City, Oregon, before settling in Baker City, Oregon, where they lived until Stanley’s passing. Aleta then moved back to the Caldwell area in 2013.
Aleta’s favorite thing to do was to take drives with Stanley and her sons and family through the mountains of Oregon and Idaho.
Aleta was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughter-in-law, Wilma Griggs; and her sisters, Delilah and Delores.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Judy) of Caldwell and Doyle of Canyon City, Oregon; eight grandchildren and their spouses; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and niece, Helen Parkison of Estacada, Oregon.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell. Services are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. (208) 459-0833
