June 19th, 1926 - February 19th, 2025
Inez Ingeborg Lilleoren
6/19/26-2/19/25
Inez passed away after a brief illness at the age of 98.5 peacefully at Mill Ridge Village. Inez was born June 19, 1926 in Edgewood and attended Sumner High School. She graduated with a BS from the School of Nursing at University of Washington in 1950, and a Masters in Nursing Education in 1961. Inez's first assignments were in the operating room, and later as an instructor at the University of
Washington School of Nursing. She became the director of Nursing Education at University of Washington.
Inez moved to San Francisco, passed her CA Board of Nursing in 1963 and was the Assistant Director of Nursing at Swedish and Providence Hospitals. In 1966 she became the director of Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing, and was also involved with the Veteran's Hospital Martinez CA/Air force.
Inez loved living in San Francisco and working in Oakland. She moved back home retiring early to care for her aging parents, and having been diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. She loved to travel but her eyesight limited her ability to travel on her own. She was able to compose extensive family histories for both sides of her family before she completely lost her eyesight.
Inez was very close to her UW nursing classmates throughout the years and lamented the loss of so many as she was almost the last to survive. She kept in contact with her Norwegian relatives still living in Norway. She is the last survivor of the Lilleoren surname in Washington. ! She loved listening to opera and listening to books on tape. She lived the last 20+ years completely blind, but with a sharp mind and amazing memory!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johan and Elsa Lilleoren, brothers John and Leif. She will be buried next to her parents and brothers at Sumner Cemetery April 12th at 11am.
