Patrick Joseph Daust
July 14th, 1940 - March 12th, 2025
Patrick Joseph Daust, 84, passed away peacefully in Sun City, AZ, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 14, 1940, in L’Anse, Michigan, he was the son of Earl and Mildred Daust.
Pat was a man of tremendous character and quiet strength. His children and grandchildren learned the value of hard work, and commitment to family, through his actions. Affectionately referred to as PJ by his wife of 61 years, Kathy, there is no doubt that his unwavering love for her was at the core of everything he did.
Pat graduated from L’Anse Senior High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force [1959-1963]. He worked for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for 34 years, first in Manistique, and then managing the Newberry and Marquette locations.
Beyond his career, Pat served on the board of directors for the Catholic Credit Union (Embers) and Big Brothers, and volunteered as a guardian for probate court in Marquette County.
An avid golfer, Pat had an impressive seven holes-in-one, and even accidentally knocked a bird out of the sky. He loved watching his grandchildren’s activities, and was the best hockey and soccer Papa.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Daust; their daughters, Roxanne (Dennis Anderson) Daust, Kathy (Scott) Grinsteiner, their grandchildren Ryan Daust, Jeremy (Andrea) Buhrmann, Tyler McQuaid, and Kyle Buhrmann. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret (Ray) McDonald, step-grandchildren Lindsey (Joe) Steele, Derek and Steve Grinsteiner, and several step great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, and siblings Lois Tembruell, Perry Daust, and James Daust.
Pat was raised in the Catholic faith. Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Banner Boswell Memorial Center, and the staff at Hospice of the Valley- Surprise AZ, for their compassionate care in his final days. In lieu of memorial gifts, please consider donating to your local hospice organization.
