In Loving Memory

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond Thomas Bullard, Jr., who departed this life on March 11, 2025, in Simpsonville, SC. Born on December 18, 1945, in Columbia, SC, Ray lived a life filled with enthusiasm, kindness, and an enduring love for others.

Raymond, affectionately known as Ray, was a man who cherished human connection and was beloved for his genuine nature. He was someone who never met a stranger, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. Ray found joy in many things, particularly those activities where his hands could bring ideas to life. He spent his career enjoying various hands-on jobs that spoke to his love for creation and collaboration, showcasing his dedication and skillful nature.

Ray was a proud lifetime resident of West Columbia, SC, where he attended Brookland Cayce High School. A member of The Village Church in Columbia, SC, his faith and community were central to his life. An army veteran, Ray served his country with honor, and his incredible work ethic shone through in every job he undertook, especially those involving working with his hands. His love for children and his generous spirit meant he never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need.

His love for people was matched by his passion for music, where hymns, Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, and Country were constants in his life, playing the background to many of his cherished memories. Ray also had a fervent love for race cars, a pastime that brought him much happiness and camaraderie with friends he held dear.

Throughout his life, Ray was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond Thomas Bullard, Sr. and Louise Baggott Bullard. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Glenda Bullard Spivey Teeter of Greensboro, NC, his sister Patricia Bullard Howze and her husband Jesse of Simpsonville, SC, along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews who adored their uncle for his warm spirit and the light he brought into their lives.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Ray's life on Monday, March 17. The visitation will be held from 1 PM to 2 PM at Thompson Funeral Home at 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 PM. Ray will be laid to rest at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens at 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC, where he will be lovingly remembered by many.

As we say goodbye to Ray, we are reminded of the joy he brought into the world. May his cheerful spirit and generous heart inspire us to live more fully, love more deeply, and embrace each day with kindness.

In keeping with Ray’s spirit of giving, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice, a gesture that would undoubtedly bring a smile to his face.
