Carlos Flores Davila
April 17th, 1939 - March 6th, 2025
Carlos Davila passed away Thursday, March 6th in Colorado Springs and has rejoined his beloved wife at last. He was 85 years old.
Carlos grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and loved his hometown. He was raised on the South side of the city and attended Roy Miller High School where he excelled in track and field events. It was also in this beautiful city by the sea that he met his future wife Margaret (Mimi). They were married after high school, raised two children, and were devoted to each other.
In life, Carlos was a welder by trade and an accomplished auto mechanic who worked for Costal Iron Works and Corpus Christi Gas. But to family and friends, Carlos was well known as an absolute golf “nut.” He relentlessly worked to improve his game for years – ranging from practicing his putting game on the living room green to spending sunny weekends on the local golf course.
In the early 1990s, Carlos had the opportunity to visit his daughter and son-in-law abroad in England. Videos of Carlos from this time show him visiting scenic castles and historic locales, only to be focused on digging his heel in the grass to test it for golfing suitability. He really loved the game! Carlos was excited to attend the British Open during his visit – so excited that he failed to keep track of his family as the game ended. He exited the event at the wrong gate and waited at the wrong meetup spot. As Mimi searched high and low for him amidst the throngs of people, she asked a local police officer for help locating him. “It might be easier to find a new husband!” replied the bobby. Fortunately for Carlos, they were reunited and no replacement was needed.
Upon retiring, Carlos and Mimi spent three months in Australia visiting their son, Danny, and his family. Danny had also developed “golf-itis” and it was clear there was only one treatment. Carlos rose to the challenge, and he braved the challenging golf courses of Australia alongside his son, dodging kangaroos and sand traps alike.
In 2010, Carlos and his wife moved to Las Cruces, NM to be near their daughter as Mimi’s health began to fail. She was the love of his life, and upon her passing he was never quite the same. Carlos continued to live with his daughter and son-in-law in the following years and came with them to Colorado in 2022.
Carlos is survived by his son Daniel (Daria) of Perth, Australia; daughter Rebecca (Michael) of Colorado Springs; grandsons Daniel and Zachary, granddaughters Rachel and Remy; and three great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Carlos’ personal wishes there will be no services. Those seeking to honor Carlos should play a round of golf or putt-putt in his memory. His ashes will be returned to the city by the sea that he called home.
