Morgan Lee Hawkins
September 30th, 1950 - March 15th, 2025
Morgan Lee Hawkins was 74 years of age when he was taken home Saturday morning 3/14/2025.
He had suffered a long period of illness and was at University of Kentucky Hospital, and then Bluegrass Hospice in Lexington Kentucky. He did have a Living Will.
Morgan is preceded in death by his father, Henry B. Hawkins; his mother, Barbara Cain Hawkins; his sister Linda Darlene Hawkins, brother Raymond Jay Hawkins; his brother, Henry Curtis Hawkins and his son Jerrod Lee Hawkins, 51 of Colorado Springs, CO.
Morgan is survived in Life by his wife, Jennifer Lynn Hawkins; his first wife Debbie Bertrand of 32 blessed years; his sister Nancy Kay Hawkins, brother James Edward Hawkins, sister Cynthia Lynn Hawkins and his son Jeremiah Lee Hawkins, 51, his wife Cathy Hawkins; stepdaughter Brooke Taylor Spanheimer 24, and stepson Brandon Thomas Spanheimer 15, of Katy, TX. Also, very many aunts, uncles and cousins in Indiana and Kentucky.
Morgan was Grandpa to four handsome grandsons: Jack Grayson Hawkins 15, Christopher Quinn (Kit) Hawkins 13, Ethan Morgan Hawkins 12, and Matthew William Hawkins 10, their mom Amanda Hawkins of Salt Lake City, UT. He was also Papa Morgan to Jennifer’s grandchildren, Connor Chase Prewitt 14, Makenna Taylor Prewitt 10, and Olivia Jenna Prewitt, 8 years; and their parents Bethany and Jason Prewitt of Nicholasville KY.
Morgan excelled at the many occupations he held, for he was a real people person; including being a welder, working on motor cycles, an excellent car salesman, a Union leader, and a realtor at Remax in Houston. He then started his own Realty Company with his partners, Wendell and Dawn Miller in 1985 for many more years in Houston.
Morgan Hawkins was a man who loved his life; his family, dogs and cats, his cars and he loved to travel and eat great food, and was exceedingly fond of Sushi! Morgan was passionate about his politics, but we won’t go into that here! He absolutely loved fishing and any time he could be out on a boat with his friend Boyd, or on any body of water was a very good day! We had several great trips to Bar Harbor, Maine; Galveston Island, DallasFort Worth, Myrtle and Virginia Beach, Florida, Michigan and Seattle. He had many cars over the years, but his favorites were his little red BMW convertible and especially his canary yellow ’57 Chevy.
One thing most people knew about Morgan was that he loved his Baseball! He was a Cincinnati Reds (Jason), and a Houston Astros fan, and Jeremy would say “mostly Houston”. Morgan coached Jerrod and Jeremy’s Little League teams for years and trained them to be outstanding pitchers. Morgan coached the Cardinals against their close rivals, the Twins led by Coach Herb Spanheimer and Jeremy’s friend Todd Spanheimer into 3 Championships and 1 undefeated season. Funny thing about Todd and Jeremy; they shared a lot of common interests down to the girl they eventually both married. That same girl, Cathy. Jeremy dated her in High School. Todd married her first, and she’s now Mrs Cathy Hawkins! Go figure. On behalf of Morgan, a huge thank you to all of you mentioned and unnamed, who helped turn him into the man I loved. We’ll never forget him. He’s in God’s hands now, waiting for the rest of us… A final service for close family members only will be held at Clark Legacy Funeral home in Nicholasville, KY March 24th 2025.
