In Loving Memory of Our Dad – A Life Well Rolled
It is with equal parts sadness and fondness that we share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and all-around memorable character. At 86 years young on March 19, 2025 Dad left this world the way he lived—on his own terms, likely with a bowling pin in one hand and a travel brochure in the other.
Van was born in New Jersey but spent his early adult years serving in the United States Air Force and moved all over with his family until finally settling in Tucson. He spent 26 years of his life partnered with Ruth, his first wife and the loving mother of his three children—Lisa, Scott, and Victoria—who are all still wondering how they inherited his stubborn streak and his sense of humor (usually at the same time). Dad also shared a chapter of life with his second wife, Joan, who predeceased him and long time girlfriend Joyce, who no doubt welcomed him at the pearly gates with a well-earned “What took you so long?”
An avid bowler, Dad spent countless evenings at the lanes perfecting his form, talking friendly trash, and occasionally achieving a strike when nobody was looking. He was also a devoted traveler, always ready to pack a bag and hit the road—even if he wasn't entirely sure where the road led. Whether cruising the high seas or taking the scenic route (on purpose or not), Dad was happiest exploring new places and telling stories that may or may not have been 100% fact-checked.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love. He is predeceased by his daughter Lisa and survived by his children Scott and Victoria, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of memories that will keep us all smiling for years to come.
In true Dad fashion, we’re fairly certain he’s now organizing a bowling league in the sky—and insisting the lanes are crooked.
We love you, Dad. Thanks for the laughs, the lessons, and the legendary road trips. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
