Sandra Lea Frick
May 14th, 1947 - March 14th, 2025
Sandra Lea Frick (Payne) was born on May 14th, 1947, in La Grande, Oregon, to Frank ‘Scott’ & Lillian Jane Payne of Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Washington High School in 1966 and enjoyed participating in Masque, a social service club. As the oldest of four siblings to Judie, Gale, and John, she grew up in the Laurelhurst neighborhood, and while in high school, she worked at the Laurelhurst Theater. After a courageous battle with dementia, Sandy passed peacefully in McMinnville on Friday, March 14th, at the age of seventy-seven with her children by her side. They spent her last day telling stories and sharing many wonderful memories of her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott & Lillian Payne; her son, Scott Krening; stepson Ryan Frick; and her husband, Donald ‘Jim’ James Frick.
Sandy married Stanley Allen Krening in 1969, and they had three children: Wendy Jane, Scott Allen, and David Stanley. Sandy enjoyed being a homemaker while raising her children. She later married Donald ‘Jim’ Frick in 2003. They enjoyed volunteering at the Newberg Library and were active in their church, St. Francis of Assisi Continuing Anglican Church. They were married until his death in 2020. She adored her parents, family, history, reading, movies, plants, animals (especially cats), attending church, and singing in the choir. Sandy was a talented artist who painted murals on windows during the holidays at work. Making decorative cakes for every family and friend occasion was her special gift. She even designed and made her wedding cake for her marriage in 2003. For over 30 years, Sandy worked for the Edwards Center in the mental health department as a vocational rehabilitation manager. She especially enjoyed working with disabled adults. Her clients and co-workers were like a second family to her. She is survived by her children, Wendy Krening and David Krening; stepchildren, Amy Hanifan, Christiana Piatt, Kayla Frick, and Amanda Frick; grandchildren, Kendra Krening, Coral Worley, Haven Worley, and Oliver Krening; step-grandchildren, Joel and Charlotte Hanifan, Ellie, Beau, Bryce, and Gwendolyn Piatt, Bailey, Harper, and Emily Browne-Frick; Caleb and Carina Frick; great-grandchildren, Damien, Michael, Lilly, Nico, and Iris. Siblings: Judith ‘Judie’ Payne, Gale Denis (Lary), and John Payne, along with many nieces and nephews (and her granddog Ember). She was a devoted Christian who attended church regularly and enjoyed the company of her family and grandchildren. Sandy was said by many to have the purest soul. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held this summer. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
