Mark Joseph Buckner
1954 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Joseph Buckner, 70, after courageously fighting cancer for seven years.
Mark was born to Wanda “Jeri” [Hill] Buckner and Joe Ed Buckner in Norman, Oklahoma on March 30, 1954. He lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and California before settling and spending most of his life in Firestone, Colorado.
Mark was tough as nails, stubborn as heck, never gave up, and fought like hell. He was determined to live life to the fullest and had a tireless work ethic in everything he put his mind to. He spent most of his career as an electrical engineer at multiple high-tech companies before retiring to start his own handyman business. Mark was dedicated to his family, loved writing music and playing guitars with friends and for family, and was passionate about motorcycling, planning many international rides. He had the rare ability as a leader to connect and unify people. Mark spent many years as a freedom fighter for motorcyclists’ rights, first on the local level as state coordinator for ABATE of Colorado and later on the national level as president of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). In 2018 he was inducted into the MRF Hall of Fame, and in 2019 was inducted into the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Hall of Fame. He enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams for many years and was an enthusiastic sports fan. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He will be deeply missed.
Mark is survived by and will live forever in the hearts of his loving wife of 48 years, Sherry, their four children: Nathan (Jennifer), Erin, Jesse (Lindsay), and Ryan; seven adoring grandchildren: Alex, Aaron, Jordan, Ariah, Owen, Hannah, and Everly; siblings Kristin (Todd) Lewis and David Buckner; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial celebration for Mark will be held on April 28, 2025, at Georgia Boys BBQ in Frederick, Colorado. Mark’s last motorcycle ride over Slumgullion Pass, south of Gunnison, Colorado, will be midsummer 2025 (details to be provided closer to the date). All who loved Mark are invited to join us at one or both events to celebrate his life.
