Michael John “Mike” Garrett, 78, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Wesley Chapel, Florida, after several months of facing congestive heart failure and respiratory illnesses. He was surrounded by his loving family as he entered into his eternal reward.

Born on October 26, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, Mike built a life marked by dedication to his profession, devotion to his family, and a spirit of creativity and faith. He pursued a career as a Professional Civil Engineer and worked for several companies throughout Florida. His commitment to public service was evident during his tenure with the Pasco County Public Works Department, where he served for many years prior to his retirement.

Mike and his family relocated to Florida in 1982, where they established deep roots and lasting friendships. Alongside his professional endeavors, Mike was also a weekend entrepreneur. With his wife Suzanne by his side, he explored various ventures including ceramics, labeling hot sauces, and crafting stained glass windows, each reflecting their shared creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

After retiring from engineering, Mike found joy in playing video games—a pastime that brought him relaxation and entertainment in his later years. More profoundly, retirement also marked a spiritual renewal for Mike. After many years away from the church, he returned to his faith with sincerity and devotion. He was fully reinstated into the Church and spent meaningful time in prayer and reflection, growing closer to God.

Mike’s greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Suzanne Jane (Wills) Garrett; daughter Melissa Sue Garrett; son John Michael Garrett and his wife Becky; granddaughters Sarah (Sulsona) Woodward and her husband Cameron, and Emma Jean Garrett; and great-grandson Adam Grant Woodward. He also leaves behind his brother Timothy Garrett and wife Elaine; brother-in-law Larry Wills and wife Monica; sister-in-law Connie Etzkorn and husband Doug.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jane (McCullaugh) Garrett; father John Edward Garrett; brother Patrick Garrett; and other loved ones who went before him.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church located at 2348 Collier Parkway in Land O’Lakes, Florida. A Funeral Mass will follow at the same location beginning at 10:30 AM; and then a reception hosted by Our Lady of the Rosary Council of Catholic Women and the Corpus Christi Council of Catholic Women.

Mike’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring love for family, creative pursuits shared with those closest to him, and ultimately a return to faith that brought him peace. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory, to the Our Lady of the Rosary Building Fund.
