David Anderson
May 21st, 1946 - March 16th, 2025
David Anderson, also known as “Shorty” by his friends, passed from this life peacefully at his home in Jubilee Housing in Washington, DC on March 16, 2025. He was 78. Mr. Anderson was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 21,1946 and is survived by two sons, and predeceased by his beloved mother, Jean Elizabeth Anderson, and grandmother, Marie Anderson, who instilled deeply held values that characterized his adult life. Mr. Anderson suffered a severe brain injury in his 30’s that resulted in many physical challenges. But with help from a variety of programs administered by the federal and DC governments and voluntary organizations, he was able to lift himself out of poverty and homelessness and live a life filled with dignity, independence, and joy. Mr. Anderson was known for his infectious smile and joyful laughter and for his big, bright eyes which radiated the love of God to everyone who met him. He was loved and admired by his many friends whom he hung out with for many years in Dupont Circle, and by his core team of caregivers, most of whom had the privilege of being of service to him during the last 9 years of his life. A Mass will be said in his memory at St. Mathew’s Cathedral in Washington, DC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, David would have encouraged people to do something that would be of help to homeless people, even to one homeless person, in the District. May he rest in the peace of God.
