Samuel "Sam" Yen Pan
March 16th, 1948 - April 1st, 2025
In Loving Memory of Samuel Yen Pan
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Samuel Yen Pan, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on April 1, 2025. He was affectionately called “Brother Sam” and “Uncle Sam” by many around him. Sam was peacefully and joyfully united with his Savior at the age of 77.
Born on March 16, 1948 in Taipei Taiwan, Sam served in the Taiwanese military as an army officer before immigrating to California and marrying Joyce Pan in 1979, his wife of 46 years. Samuel lived a life serving his church at Chinese Immanuel in Sacramento, his family, and most importantly his Lord and Master, Jesus.
Sam will always be remembered by his love of growing fruits, his handy skills, his wise and candid teachings, his friendly smile, his love for singing, his love of guitar playing and most importantly his devotion to the Lord.
Sam had a servant’s heart. While his hobbies included tending his orchard, garden, and undertaking house projects, he was always thinking about how to bless others with vegetables, fruits and his handy know-how around the home. His hobbies were forged into service for others, and a love for the Lord. He was often found within the doors of the church, and he always sought a spiritual conversation with every person he met. He is known for his “Seeker’s” class at Chinese Immanuel Church—a Sunday School Class intended to engage non-believing Chinese speakers with the truth of God’s word.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Pan; children Janet (Daniel) Dai, and Jonathan (Esther) Pan; grandchildren Natalie Dai, Emilie Dai, Emmanuel Pan, Jesse Pan and Jubilee Pan; siblings Jerry Pan, Jenny Pan, Ted Pan and Richard Pan. He was preceded in death by Father Teng-Yuan Pan, Mother Ya-Hsin Pan, brother Thomas Pan, sister Pearl Pan, and granddaughter Hosanna Pan.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Elk Grove’s East Lawn cemetery on Friday April 18, 2025. A memorial service to honor Sam’s life will be held on May 24, 2025 at 10:30am at Chinese Immanuel Church 4415 Harlin Drive, Sacramento, CA 95826. All are welcome to attend the memorial service.
We are blessed by the time the Lord has given us with Sam, and we wait with great hope and expectation to see him again, praising his Lord and savior in the new creation!
