Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
Robert K Wilson
March 25th, 1938 - April 10th, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert K. Wilson, who left us on April 10, 2025, at Madigan Army Hospital in Washington. Born on March 25, 1938, in Scranton, Kansas, Bob's journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to family, service, and community.
Bob is survived by his beloved spouse, Kathy Wilson, who he married on July 21, 1962. He was a proud father to his sons, Kevin Wilson (Shauna Revello) of Douglas, Michigan, and Mike Wilson (Jodi Roy) of Seattle, Washington, both of whom carry forward his legacy. Bob also cherished his three grandchildren, Amelia, Callum, and Vaughn Wilson, who were the light of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Keith Wilson and May Stockman Wilson, his sister Darlene Bray, and extends his memory to his brothers, Charles Wilson of Colorado and Richard Wilson of Kansas.
Bob's educational foundation began at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, followed by a Master of Education from Wayne State University. This commitment to growth and learning carried into his dedicated career in the United States Navy, where he served from January 27, 1961, until his retirement on August 1, 1986. Following his military service, he held various roles within the Department of Defense until 1992 and subsequently served with the Federal Aviation Administration in Renton, Washington, until 2001.
Throughout his life, Bob exemplified kindness and wisdom. He was well known for his positive demeanor, compassion, and dedication to service, both in the workplace and within the community. A true pioneer of diversity and inclusion, he took great pride in supporting those around him. His infectious humor was evident in his love for puns and dad jokes, always bringing laughter to his family and friends.
Bob's passions extended beyond his work. He enjoyed camping, playing golf, road trips around the US and Europe, and was a devoted coach for his children's sports teams. His enthusiasm for life led him and Kathy on numerous RV vacations across the country for eight joyous years. Additionally, he found joy in singing, participating in the church choir at Saint Benedict Episcopal Church, where he was also an active member of the Vestry and engaged in various social events. Bob’s community involvement included service with the Gig Harbor Lions and Lacey Sunrise Lions Club, where he proudly served as King Lion.
He remained connected with his military roots, participating in gatherings with the “Old Salts” to celebrate fellow veterans.
A memorial service to honor Bob’s remarkable life will take place on May 10, 2025, at 11am at Saint Benedict Episcopal Church, located at 910 Bowker St SE, Lacey, WA 98503.
As we reflect on Bob's life, we invite everyone who knew him to carry forward his legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to:
