Violet Lucille Ratcliff Grissom, 84, passed away in her home in Warner Robins, Georgia on March 30, 2025. She lived an interesting life growing up with a Dad that was a Civil Engineer, traveling up and down the East Coast to numerous construction sites. She once attended 4 separate schools during one school year. When she graduated from Great Bridge High School in Virginia she went to work for the Bell Telephone company as an information operator. Within a year, she married and then within the next four years gave birth to three children that she dedicated her life to raising. She became an adopted mother/grandmother/cook/taxi driver/etc. to many of our friends/ teammates/etc. and many others over the years. Before her children were grown she was put in a difficult situation where she had to work three jobs to continue to raise her children. During that time, women weren’t allowed to have their own credit cards nor very many career opportunities with the primary experience of having raised children. But she was successful! Our mom worked as a cleaning lady, a daycare worker, a temporary position as a clerk at the Air Force Base and ultimately as a tool crib employee for Boeing where she eventually retired.

After retirement, our mom enjoyed flea markets, reading, puzzles, her computer, she took fishing trips & bike week trips with her son, Steve, day trips all over Georgia, family visits to Washington State and Maryland with her daughter, Laura and weekly bowling events with her son, Thomas. Our mom was smart, involved and loving. She was also committed to the local special needs programs and events.

Lucille Grissom is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Grissom Morris and Larry Morris, her son, Steven Kirk Grissom and her son, Charles Thomas Grissom, granddaughter and grand-son-law, Amanda McParland and David McParland, granddaughter, Brandy Beach and her great-grandson, Hutson McParland, her brother, Carl Edwards Ratcliff, numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones too many to mention, but were well loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Edward Ratcliff and Violet Virginia Ratcliff and her sister, Rachel Ratcliff Campbell and an “adopted” son, Michael Stringer.

Per our mom’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be planned at a later point in time. She wanted everyone who visited, sent cards/flowers and called to know that it made her last days joyful. Her spirit will always be with us due to her strong desire to not miss out on anything.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Pine Point Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA. 31210 or any Hospice Facility near you.
