Carmen Dean Mitchell

Carmen Del Real García Mitchell, 88, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. Born in Seville, Spain, on November 10, 1936, Carmen brought warmth, strength, and a love bigger-than-life to everyone that knew her.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Mitchell, and two sons, Edward "Mitch" Mitchell and Marcus Mitchell. She is survived by her brother, Manuel Garcia, and her sister, Terri Carrano Bandies, her sister- law Mellisa Hughes,
her son, Michael Mitchell, and daughter, Melicarme Davidson. Carmen's legacy lives on through her surviving children and grandchildren- Kevin, Jennifer, Meghan, Carmen, Abbi, Summer, Kayley, Brittany, JD, and Kelly- as well as numerous great-grandchildren, all whom brought her endless joy.
Carmen was full of life and love. She had an infectious smile and warm heart. She dedicated 30 years to the Piedmont Club, and 10 years to Lynchburg Public Schools. She found peace in simple pleasures- taking daily walks around the lake, feeding her ducks, walking Chico, dancing to music in the kitchen each morning, and savoring her hot cup of coffee. She was very proud of earning her US citizenship- wearing the title of an American with honor. Above all, Carmen loved and cared deeply for all her family, especially her children whom she cherished dearly. A funeral service will be held in her honor on Monday, May 19th at 10 AM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, with a graveside service to follow at Fort Hill Cemetery.
