Susan Spach Welfare, 98 of 5820 Carmel Road in Charlotte passed away on May 14, 2025, holding hands with her granddaughter, Emily. Born on July 23, 1926, in Winston-Salem, Susan’s greatest joy and achievement was her family.

As a mother of three, grandmother of two, and great-grandmother of three, Susan was the heart of the Welfare family. She worked for many years as a tax preparation accountant as well as a home maker. Susan was known for her many quaint sayings such as “ignorance is bliss”, “beggars can’t be choosers” and “variety is the spice of life”.  She also was a lover of holidays, especially Christmas, and would adorn her home with holiday decorations and prepare scrumptious meals for her family.  Susan loved her family very much and cherished time spent with them.

Susan is survived by her son, John, and was preceded in death by her daughter Lynn and other son, Hank. She had two granddaughters, Emily and Jamie and three great-granddaughters, Mila, Haven and Navy.

A service will be held on May 22 at 1pm at God’s Acre in Winston-Salem, followed by a reception at Home Moravian Church.
