September 27th, 1958 - May 25th, 2025
Lionel Richard Hancock, Jr., lovingly known as "Big Rick," passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Peak Resources in Charlotte, NC.
Rick was born in Charlotte, NC on September 27, 1958, to the late Bishop Lionel Richard Hancock, Sr. and Bobbie Sue Eastwood Hancock. Rick attended North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC.
Rick was a painter by trade, and enjoyed fishing, Nascar racing, and NFL football. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ - Apostolic church from an infant which was founded by his grandfather, the late Bishop R. L. Hancock. He loved coming to church and rarely missed a service. He also loved assisting our elderly saints in the church any way he could.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, the late Bishop Lionel Richard Hancock, Sr.; mother, Bobbie Sue Hancock; sisters, Susan Irene Hancock, and Sondra Marie Hancock; maternal grandparents, Rufus Archibald, and Ruth Polk Eastwood; paternal grandparents, Bishop R. L. Hancock, and Marie Brown Hancock.
Rick leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joyce Bowman Hancock; sister, Elaine Hancock; three sons, "Little Rick" Hancock (Nikki), Brian Hancock, Michael Hancock; grandchildren, Cody, Cassidy, Chris, Serturnity; great grandchildren, Autumn, Keelan; nephews, Gary Benson (Melissia), Kevin, Kelly, Chris, Gary, Jr., and Gary Foster III; great nephews, Chance Benson, Tyler Prim, nieces, Kim, Allison (Mike), Brooke (Ethan), Tonya; great nieces, Lexi, Kendall, Kerrington, Gina, Lacee, Hannah; best friend/brother, Mike Byars; the ministry, and all the saints of The Church of Jesus Christ - Apostolic.
Rick's passing has left a great void in our hearts, but we know that God will fill that void. Our memories of Big Rick, and his legacy, will live on forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear brother. God knows your name!!!
