Freda Catherine Mann Isley
February 26th, 1937 - May 25th, 2025
Freda Catherine Mann Isley, 88, of Gate City, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord
Sunday evening, May 25, 2025, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was
born February 26, 1937, at her family home on Copper Creek in Scott County, Virginia,
the daughter of the late Oak and Edna Blair Mann.
Freda was a graduate of Shoemaker High School in Gate City, Virginia. Professionally, she
had a career as an administrative assistant in Kingsport, Tennessee, with a lengthy 23
year tenure at the Kingsport Press, from where she retired. Beyond her professional life,
Freda was a devoted to her family, leading a life of service to others … family, friends,
community … with unwavering compassion and countless acts of kindness. She was a
faithful member of Copper Creek Community Church. She was blessed with a beautiful
singing voice and enjoyed attending gospel music gatherings throughout the countryside.
An excellent cook, she delighted in preparing meals for family and friends.
She is pre-deceased in death by her parents, Oak and Edna Blair Mann; son Edwin
Sanders; daughter Karen Hixson Ellington (Danny); brothers Edgar Mann (Betty), Don
Mann and Jimmy Mann (Peggy); sister-in-law Inez Isley.
Freda is survived by her husband of 23 years, Paul Isley; two daughters, Sherry Sanders
Oaks (Mike) and Beth Sanders Blair (Gary); two sons, Perry Sanders and Brian
Hixson (Kim); eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; beloved brother, M.J. Mann
(Betty); sister -in-law, Dorothy Mann; brother-in law, Charles Isley (Sue); sister-in-law, Pearl
Isley Swanner (Jesse); many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Clayton Williams and Pastor Jesse Swanner officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
