Ullrey Memorial Chapel
Mark Jackson Wood
January 2nd, 1955 - May 15th, 2025
Mark Wood passed away on May 15, 2025, after a brief illness. Mark was a lifelong resident of Yuba City, CA, though his impact on those he met traveled far and wide. His enthusiasm and humor were infectious and will live on.
Born on January 2, 1955, to Edward Wood and Elizabeth "Bette" (Symonds) Wood, Mark burst onto the scene and lived life to the fullest.
On May 27, 1978, he married his best friend and love of his life, Stephanie Wood.
Together they raised two children, Adam (Mary), and Emily, and were blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Alexa, Colton, Maggie, and Margo. To the little ones, Mark was known as "Papa."
Mark kept an open mind and an open door, and along with Stephanie, he hosted countless gatherings, from Super Bowls to Thanksgivings and everything in between.
The only things more bountiful than the imbibing and feasting were the stories and jokes he would tell, especially when in the company of brother, Paul and John (Gordana), and his sister, Martha.
Curiosity and talent, along with an inextinguishable work ethic, made Mark successful in all endeavors. At a young age, he started a landscape business, and followed that with employment with Frank M. Booth.
Mark then joined the ranks of the City of Davis, rising to the Chief Building Official before retiring in 2010.
He improved everything he touched, and leaves behind many home renovations, pieces of furniture, and nuggets of wisdom as evidence.
Mark was an avid sports fan– go Niners, go Giants! Mark enjoyed his weekly outings at Plumas Lake Golf Course with the crew. Scores didn't matter because camaraderie filled the cup.
Mark's friends and family, both immediate and extended, will miss him greatly. His life cannot be summed up in the margins of this paper.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 11 AM until 4 PM, at Plumas Lake Golf Club.
