Raymond Christian Schaub
April 14th, 1961 - May 20th, 2025
Raymond Christian Schaub Jr was born on April 14, 1961 in New Hyde Park, NY to Raymond Sr. and Mary Ellen Schaub. His family eventually settled in West Nyack, New York, where Ray spent his adolescent years raised alongside his 4 brothers (Bill, Charlie, Franky, and Chris) and 3 sisters (Faith, Hope, and Mary Ellen). During this time, he attended New City Elementary, Felix Festa Jr. High, and Clarkstown South High School where he played soccer. After high school, Ray followed his childhood dream of becoming a pilot all the way to Melbourne Florida, where he attended the Florida Institute of Technology’s Air Commerce and Flight program, graduating in 1984. While there, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He met his wife Betty while in Melbourne, and they were married in 1983. After welcoming their first child Raymond III in 1984, they moved to Gainesville, FL so that Betty could complete her Master’s degree at the University of Florida. While there, Ray took his first steps in his career as a pilot, flying the air ambulance plane for Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. In 1986, the family moved back to his hometown in New York, settling in New City. While there, he began his long career at American Airlines, first flying regional routes until eventually moving into the role of flight instructor. During this time, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Amelia into the family in 1990. He also spent these years close to his parents and siblings, often spending Friday nights at his parents’ house for weekly “pizza night.” In 1995, the family moved back to the Melbourne, Florida area and settled in Satellite Beach. When he wasn’t flying, Ray could often be found out on his boat out in the Banana River, water skiing or tubing with his kids and their friends. Ray also was always lending a hand to a neighbor or friend, and was famous for being able to fix just about anything. After years as a flight instructor, Ray eventually went back to flying the line and finished his 37 year career with American Airlines flying international routes on the Boeing 777. He also loved to travel with his friends and family, and visited many places such as Latvia, Prague, Rome, Paris, London, Iceland, Dubai, Israel, Africa, Costa Rica, Buenos Aires, Santiago, New Zealand and many more. He even dove the Great Barrier Reef! In his later years, he became known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, and they loved spending time with him. Ray passed away in his home in Satellite Beach on May 20th, 2025. He will forever be missed, loved, and always in our hearts.
A Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus, 3050 N. Highway A1A Indialantic on June 10th, 2025 at 10:30 am.
