Gregory Caiazzo
June 21st, 1949 - June 1st, 2025
Gregory G. Caiazzo, age 75, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025.
Born on June 21, 1949, Greg dedicated his life to faith, service, and family. He was ordained a Paulist Priest in 1976 and, in 1981, answered a higher call by joining the United States Navy to serve as a chaplain to the Sea Services.
During his distinguished military career, Greg rose to the rank of Navy Captain. His leadership roles included serving as Chaplain Recruiter for the Navy, Force Chaplain for the Navy’s land bases in Southern Europe (COMFAIRMED), and Command Chaplain at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily. His dedicated service was recognized with multiple awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal (with five gold stars), the Navy Commendation Medal (with one gold star), and the Navy Achievement Medal (with one gold star), among many others.
After more than 30 years of active duty, Greg continued his ministry as a civilian priest at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California. He also pursued lifelong learning, holding advanced degrees in Telecommunications Management and Human Resources, as well as a Doctor of Ministry. He was a proud alumnus of Maryknoll College (1967–1971), Washington Theological Union (M.Div., 1972–1975), and Webster University (M.A., 1983–1986).
Greg was known for his love of world travel, good food and wine, and his deep affection for his animals, Paddington and Jasper. He cherished his winters in Saint Petersburg and his summers in London and abroad, always surrounding himself with culture, beauty, and meaningful connection.
Greg is survived by his loving sisters, Claudia Dalton of Kennebunk, Maine, and Laura Maness (Wade) of Lumberton, North Carolina. He was a devoted uncle to Blair Bass (Rebecca), Ashley Maness (Sarah Dodd), Samantha Corley (Andrew), Spencer Maness, Matthew Dalton (Sarah), and Christopher Dalton (Aubrey). His family and friends remember him for his sharp wit, deep compassion, and unwavering commitment to service.
Greg will be laid to rest with full military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, alongside his beloved parents, Harry and Jean Caiazzo.
A funeral or memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Greg’s memory by supporting a charity of your choice or simply raising a glass of good wine and sharing a story in his honor.
