Sarah "Sally" Louise Cox
February 25th, 1934 - June 5th, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sarah "Sally" Louise Cox, aged 91, who departed this life on June 5, 2025, in her beloved home of Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on February 25, 1934, in Willoughby, Ohio, Sally was a beacon of kindness and generosity, known for her unwavering love for her family and friends.
Sally's life was marked by dedication and compassion. She graduated from Kirtland High School and pursued a fulfilling career in nursing, graduating from the Willoughby Eastlake School of Nursing. Her professional journey spanned over three decades, primarily at Lake West Hospital, where she dedicated 28 years of service in the ICU. Later, Sally continued to touch lives working with heart specialists and various nursing homes. Even after retirement, her nurturing spirit thrived as she spent 20 years working part-time at Pleasant Hills Golf Course.
Sally's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her children, Kim Cole of Port Charlotte, Florida; Michael Cox and his wife Lois of Orlando, Florida; and Timothy Cox and his wife Darlene of Hiram. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who fondly remember her warmth and wisdom: Beth Wolfram (Byron), Michelle Moodie, Angela Vargas, Scott Cox, Ryan Cox (Julie), Megan Gubanich (Matt), Aaron Cox (Alexis), Kelly Andre (Adam), Nicole Kozelka (Anthony), Kevin Slodic (Judy), Jenifer Wolf (Casey), and Michael Cox (Renee). Sally was also cherished by her great-grandchildren: Chase, Paige, Salvatore, Geovanni, Kira, Abigal, Josephine, Georgia, Josie, Landon, Christian, Braedon, Aiden, Jacob, Harper, Sebastian, Claire and Hazel.
Sally held her siblings dear to her heart, including her brother Bernard Thorne of Kirtland, and her sister Linda Garrison (Mickey) of North Carolina and sister-in law Evelyn Ann Thorne, as well as her brother-in-law Steve Davidson. She shared a special bond with her pen pal of 78 years, Rose Campbell from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Leva Thorne, her brothers Bill Thorne (Delores), Lloyd Thorne (Jan), Ronald Thorne, her sister Shirley Thorne, her son-in-law Gary Cole, her son Don (Sharon) her husband of 40 years Don Cox, her significant other for 17 years Howard Bramley, her grandson Charlie Moodie, and great-grandchild John Wolfram.
Beyond her professional commitments, Sally possessed a vibrant personality. She found joy in bowling, dancing, and crocheting beautiful Afghans. Most importantly, she treasured the time spent with her family, and the winters she delighted in her second home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life she led. A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Sally’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital in recognition of her caring spirit.
Sarah "Sally" Louise Cox leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, kindness, and devotion, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
