David Stanley Chatfield passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, in Jackson, CA, at 77. He was born on May 15, 1948, in Lodi, CA, to Stanley and Betty (Marshall) Chatfield.

David is survived by his daughter, Jessica Chatfield of San Andreas, CA, and his partner, Marcia Wyatt of Jackson, CA, as well as his grandson, Skylyr Chatfield Combs. He is also survived by one first cousin, Raymond Chatfield, and two second cousins, Katy and Curtis Chatfield, all of Mokelumne Hill.

"Charlie," as David, the 4th grade teacher called him, grew up, lived, worked, and died with that name. He wore many hats throughout his 77-year life. He was a 4th-generation gold miner. Grew up working in great-grandfather's gold mine near Gwin Mine of Paloma, CA., which was known in Mokelumne Hill as "Dead Nead." He was a mountain man who spent 50 years living 7 days a year in authentic 1840s clothing, adopting the lifestyle of a Hudson Bay fur trader. He will surely be missed at the "Pacific Primitive Rendezvous" PPR encampments of 45 years. A potluck celebration of life will be held on July 11, 2025, at noon at Mokelumne Town Hall, located on Main Street, Mokelumne Hill, CA. In lieu of flowers, bring a dish of your choice. Very much appreciated. Thank you. Jessica Chatfield & Marcia Wyatt
