SNELL John, IX, Was born May 10, 1936 in Waterbury, CT. He moved to Madison, and attended grade school, high school and the U of W in Madison where he majored in Chemical Engineering, and took ROTC. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers and served in active duty at Ft. Belvoir, VA and Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. After active duty, John attended the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI, where he served in the active reserves with Company C of the 291st Engineer Battalion. Upon graduation from the Institute, John joined the Tape Laboratory of the 3M Company in St. Paul. He worked on several product lines, in several division laboratories, all within the Tape Group. He married Jeanie May 21, 1966 at Valley Community Church in Golden Valley, MN. They lived first on the east side of St. Paul, then in Lake Elmo and then at Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN. John retired from 3M on Dec. 1, 1998. He is survived by his sister Mary Fish, and his children Joy Snell, Julie Paczkowski and her husband John, and John Snell X, and his grandchildren Joshua and Aaron Giebel. John belonged to North Presbyterian Church in North St. Paul where a memorial service will be held on June 29, 2025 at 5:30pm.
