Mary Fitzgerald, 75, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, in Summerville, South Carolina. Born on April 25, 1950, in Scotland to Annie and Peter McKinnon, Mary carried the warmth and spirit of her homeland with her throughout her life.

From a young age, Mary was no stranger to hard work. She began her career as a seamstress making sails—a testament to her skill and determination—and later found her calling in sales and cosmetology. Her dedication spanned decades until she retired at the age of 72. Through each chapter of her professional life, Mary brought creativity, resilience, and a personal touch that endeared her to colleagues and clients alike.

Mary’s life was rich with simple joys and meaningful connections. She had a deep love for crocheting and found delight in the small rituals of daily life—like rearranging cupboards or savoring quiet mornings by the pool with a cup of tea and her beloved dogs nearby. Her laughter was infectious, and she never missed an opportunity to sing, dance, or share one of her cherished “wee stories.” Whether surrounded by friends in Scotland or family in the States, Mary’s presence lit up every room.

She especially treasured time spent with her partner Joseph Northrup. Together they enjoyed leisurely rides around Ocean Drive—moments filled with companionship and joy that she held dear until his passing.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her son John and daughter-in-law Marjie, Grandchildren Kassy and CJ, her sisters Theresa and Sadie, and many friends and family across two continents who were touched by her warmth and humor. She was preceded in death by her parents Annie and Peter McKinnon and her partner Joseph Northrup.

A woman of great spirit who left a lasting impression on everyone she met, Mary Fitzgerald will be deeply missed. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her
