Joseph "Joe" P. Cathers
October 30th, 1941 - June 21st, 2025
Joseph P. Cathers, 83, of Syracuse, NY, member of the Mohawk Nation Wolf Clan, passed away peacefully on June 21st. surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 30, 1941 to the late Vera Burnam Feltrinelli. One of his greatest accomplishments as a child was earning his Eagle Scout as a Boy Scout. Joe was a lifelong resident of the Valley area. He was a proud member of the cement finisher’s union for many years. Joe was an avid bowler, Yankees and SU sports fan. He was a founder/player of the Skins Softball team, where he brought the team to many victories over the years. Joe and his late wife Fay, raised their 3 children along with their grandchildren and was affectionately known as “grandpa Joe”. They were avid travelers, enjoying many adventures together.
He was predeceased by the love of his life of 50 years (married); Fay (Benedict) and his son; Edward Joseph Cathers.
He is survived by; his daughters; Gail and Julie Cathers, grandchildren; Eleanor (Williams), Jordin, James, Edmund, Cree, Kianna, Dani, Dallas and Jamisin Cathers, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 30th from 4PM to 7PM at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Syracuse.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 1st. at 11AM. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
