Keith B. "Chick" Price
February 9th, 1934 - July 8th, 2025
Keith B. “Chick” Price, 91, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at WillowBrooke Court at Matthews Glen in Matthews, NC. Mr. Price was born on February 9, 1934, in Union County, NC. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Carl J. and Nannie Bright McManus Price. Keith was quiet, easy-going and friendly toward everyone.
Keith graduated from Harding High School where he lettered in basketball and baseball. As a teenager, Keith worked for his brothers at Dilworth Poultry. Drafted into the US Army in early 1957, he completed basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, followed by radio communications school at Fort Bliss, TX. He married Margaret Anne Disher on April 6, 1957, before shipping out to his duty station in Viesbaden, Germany.
In 1961 Keith and his brothers opened Price’s Chicken Coop alongside Dilworth Poultry on Camden Ave. Whether you call it “Price’s”, “The Chicken Coop”, or simply “The Coop”-- if you know, you know. Keith retired in 1991 to spend more time with Anne, and they enjoyed 12 more years together. From the very beginning, they spent every spare moment together at Lake Wylie, SC. When not on the lake, they had fun fishing and meeting new friends at Kure Beach Pier.
He is survived by daughter Melony Anne Price-Rhodes (Doug) of Alexandria, VA; sons Keith B. Price, Jr. (Nanette) of Greensboro, NC; and William Andrew Price (Ann) of York, SC; grandchildren Emily, Adele, Cooper, Elizabeth, and Jed Price; and his close friend, companion and “Jeopardy buddy” Elise Williams of Matthews, NC. He was predeceased by his wife Anne, his mother, father, 8 siblings, and twin grandsons William Thomas and David Andrew Price.
Raised a Presbyterian, he joined Calvary United Methodist Church after marrying Anne. He was a loyal volunteer for many years at CUMC’s Loaves & Fishes program, and very proud to receive recognition for 20 years of service along the way.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Matthews Glen, 733 Pavilion View Drive, Matthews, NC, 28105. Please do not feel obligated to attend both services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
Memorials may be made to NourishUp www.nourishup.org (formerly Loaves & Fishes food pantries).
