Memorial

Clayton Kalaenuimanomano Woolley peacefully passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, in Eugene, Oregon where he had lived for the past 5 years. Clayton was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 30, 1921 to Sarah Parker Waipa and Horace Walter Woolley. He grew up in Vernal, Utah as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the third of seven children: Tennyson (Ted), Thelma, (Clayton), Evan, Earl, Quinton (Tink), and Cleone. He loved sports, raised silver foxes on the family farm during the Great Depression, and graduated from Uintah High School. He trained as a US Army pilot in WWII and flew in the Asian Pacific Theater as a B-24 bomber pilot in Australia, Borneo, Indonesia, China, Philippines, Taiwan, and Okinawa. He married Lucy Calder in the Salt Lake Temple on March 31, 1953. They started a family in Utah, then moved to California and eventually settled in Oregon for 44 years in Beaverton and Portland. He was an appliance sales manager for Montgomery Ward, White Front, and Fred Schwary’s in the Portland area and also owned and operated tire stores in Bend. Clayton served as bishop of the former Gabriel Park Ward and as a sealer in the Portland Oregon Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his later years, he was renowned for attentively tending to his large garden in Portland. This abundantly produced cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, raspberries and figs, most of which was shared with friends, family, and those in need. He will be remembered as a helpful son to his parents, a gentleman who respected women, a life-long best friend to his siblings, a diligent servant of God, a detailed family historian, a loving husband and companion, and a gentle, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In life he served others without thought of reward, in death he will continue to serve those who seek the truth. Clayton’s quiet, dependable, thoughtful, loving nature will continue in the characters of those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Lucy, son, Bert, daughter, Sann Woolley King, granddaughter, Madeline Woolley, and brothers Evan and Quinton. He is survived by his children: Marc, Cole (Jacque), Cyd (Casey) Woodard, Walt, Cill (Jerry) Alles, son-in-law, Bryan King, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Viewing and funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Maplewood Ward chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6605 SW Garden Home Road, Portland, OR.
