Deirdre (Dee) Jean Harnett, 80, passed away suddenly in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 26th. Although born in Birmingham, Dee would always consider Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales her home, having moved there at a very young age. The eldest of four daughters to Stanley and Vera (Corp) Williams, Dee studied nursing at Llandough Hospital School of Nursing before embarking on a career as a Registered Nurse. Dee was married to Gary Harnett for 24 years, and had three children. After living in Bassaleg, Wales for many years, in 1976, the family moved to Malaysia before moving to Oswego, New York in 1982.

Among other things, Dee enjoyed golfing, copper tooling, playing bridge, working in the garden with her daffodils, and listening to music. In Oswego, Dee worked as a home health aide for several years before being promoted to management within the Home Health Services department of Oswego Hospital. She retired in 2015 and moved to Fort Mill, SC to be closer to family and enjoy a milder climate.

Dee enjoyed her new home and joined several clubs including bocce ball, mahjong, bridge and bunco. Dee also loved watching her grandchildren grow up and spending time with them. Dee enjoyed a long walk every day, wearing the brightest of colors.

In addition to her parents, Dee was predeceased by her sister Wendy and brother-in-law Richard Bellringer. Dee is survived by her two sisters, Gwyneth and her husband, Nigel Cockram of Coldbrook, Wales; Sian and her husband Cliff Jones of Barry, Wales; her three children: Paul and his wife Kim Harnett of Tega Cay, SC; Rachel Moore of Greensboro, NC; and Pete and his wife Lisa Harnett of Sacramento, CA, as well as her six beloved grandchildren – Dylan, Reece, Neo, Sean, Owen and Lily. She was the favorite Aunty Dee to multiple nieces and nephews in the UK.

A celebration of life will be held at the Four Seasons Development clubhouse, 509 Turquoise Way, Fort Mill SC, 29708, at 2pm on February 24th, 2024. Dee would appreciate colorful attire at the celebration. Donations to the ALS Foundation are appreciated (http://web.alsa.org/goto/Dee_Harnett)
